According to the American Dental Association (ADA), dental disease is almost entirely preventable with good nutrition, oral hygiene, and regular dental check-ups. Yet left untreated, tooth decay and gum infections can have serious health consequences.
Lack of access to primary and preventive dental services also has an economic impact including loss of productivity leading to unemployment, increased health care costs, and increased cost for restorative services and repair in the long term.
Unfortunately people with low-incomes and no health insurance have few options for accessing dental care. Spanish Catholic Center (SCC) and the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services provide oral health care for Montgomery Cares patients.
- Oral exams
- Fluoride application
- Extraction and treatment of gum disease
- Root canal
- Bridges and crowns
- Emergencies and complicated extractions
The need for oral health services among Montgomery Cares patients remains high with demand far exceeding supply. The current length of time to receive an appointment is between one and seven months.
